Brandon Moreno enters Noche UFC in unfamiliar territory. The former two-time UFC flyweight champion has lost two straight fights and now finds himself facing a surging opponent who has already been backed into favorite status by the betting market.
Joseph Morales returned to the UFC after rebuilding his career outside the promotion and has won five consecutive fights. His last three official wins include submissions over Alibi Idiris and Matt Schnell, while Moreno has dropped consecutive fights to Tatsuro Taira and Lone’er Kavanagh.
This is a matchup between a former champion trying to prove he still belongs among the elite and a returning contender attempting to complete an unlikely career resurgence. Here is my Brandon Moreno vs Joseph Morales prediction.
Is Moreno fighting to stay in the title picture?
There is considerably more pressure on Moreno. At his best, the Mexican was one of the premier flyweights in the world. He held UFC gold twice and competed against the division’s best for years. But his recent results have raised legitimate questions about how much of that version remains.
Moreno has lost three of his last five fights. His victories over Amir Albazi and Steve Erceg showed that he can still beat quality opposition, but the losses to Taira and Kavanagh have pushed him further away from another title opportunity.
Morales arrives from the opposite direction. His original UFC run ended after a 1-2 record between 2017 and 2018. He subsequently rebuilt himself on the regional scene before earning another opportunity through The Ultimate Fighter 33. Since then, his grappling has become the defining weapon of his resurgence.
A win over Moreno would immediately give Morales the biggest name on his résumé and potentially push him toward the top of the flyweight rankings. For Moreno, another defeat could leave him closer to gatekeeper territory than another championship run.

Brandon Moreno vs Joseph Morales odds
Joseph Morales is currently the slight favorite at around -120, while Brandon Moreno is available at approximately +100. The market has already moved toward Morales. Moreno reportedly opened around -115, but support for Morales flipped the line and pushed the returning contender into favorite territory. Some books have Morales as high as roughly -137, with Moreno available around +114.
That movement makes sense considering their recent trajectories. Morales has been winning and finishing opponents, while Moreno enters after consecutive defeats.
The prop market nevertheless expects this fight to last. Over 2.5 rounds is around -320, compared with approximately +260 on under 2.5 rounds. Moreno by decision can be found in the +175 to +210 range, while an early Morales finish offers much bigger odds.
Morales by submission is another obvious market to consider. He submitted Matt Schnell with a guillotine and Alibi Idiris with a triangle in his last two UFC appearances. Early-round Morales props have been priced approximately between +600 and +850.
Can Brandon Moreno turn this into a vintage performance?
Moreno still has plenty of tools that make this a dangerous matchup for anyone outside the very top of the division. His boxing remains technically sound. He can maintain a strong pace, pressure opponents for extended periods and is comfortable fighting through difficult positions.
Durability has also been one of Moreno’s greatest strengths throughout his career. Even the TKO loss against Taira was not a conventional knockout on the feet. Taira overwhelmed him from a dominant grappling position rather than simply putting him unconscious with strikes.
Morales is dangerous on the ground, but his striking game is much more conventional than some of the opponents who have recently caused Moreno problems. Moreno should be capable of competing with him in boxing exchanges and could win minutes simply through volume, pressure and experience.
The biggest question is no longer whether Moreno has the skills. It is whether he can still consistently perform at the level those skills once allowed.
He has accumulated enormous mileage for a 32-year-old flyweight. Years of five-round fights, championship camps and wars against elite opposition can matter more than biological age alone.
Moreno does not necessarily need his championship peak to win here. The performances against Albazi and Erceg would probably make this fight seem at least competitive. But his margin for error appears to be getting smaller.
Moreno’s keys to victory
- Keep the fight at boxing range and force Morales to work for his grappling entries.
- Push a consistent pace rather than allowing Morales to dictate where exchanges occur.
- Use his experience to win close rounds rather than chasing a finish.
Joseph Morales gets the biggest opportunity of his second UFC run
Morales’ career trajectory is difficult to ignore. After being released from the UFC, he spent several years away before rebuilding through promotions including Cage Warriors and Urijah Faber’s A1 Combat. His run through The Ultimate Fighter eventually earned him another opportunity.
He has taken advantage of it. Morales submitted Alibi Idiris with a triangle choke before stopping Matt Schnell with a first-round guillotine. His grappling has become a legitimate finishing weapon, and he now enters the biggest fight of his career with five straight victories behind him.
There are still questions. Morales will have been inactive for close to a year by fight night after undergoing surgery on a broken hand. Returning from that type of injury is worth considering, particularly for someone whose boxing is an important part of his game.
There is also an enormous jump between beating Schnell and facing even a declining version of Brandon Moreno. Morales has to show that his improvement is substantial enough to overcome the experience gap. Moreno has fought championship-level opposition for years. Morales has never faced this version of competition during his current run.
Still, momentum matters. Morales looks like a fighter who is improving from appearance to appearance, while Moreno has increasingly looked like a fighter trying to slow a gradual decline.
Morales’ keys to victory
- Mix boxing and takedown attempts instead of becoming predictable with his grappling.
- Force Moreno to defend extended sequences and make the veteran work physically.
- Stay patient if the early submission does not appear and trust his ability to win rounds.
Brandon Moreno vs Joseph Morales prediction
Stylistically, Moreno has the tools to make life difficult for Morales. He can box with him, has enough grappling experience to survive dangerous positions and has spent much of his career fighting opponents at a significantly higher level.
That makes blindly fading Moreno dangerous. But there is also a point where career trajectory has to matter.
Morales enters with confidence and momentum. Moreno is coming off consecutive defeats and has gradually looked less convincing over the last several years. The gap between Moreno’s best and worst possible performance also appears wider than it once was.
Moreno could absolutely turn this into a competitive three-round fight. He should have opportunities on the feet, and his durability makes an early Morales finish less appealing than the submission numbers might initially suggest.
The difference could come from Morales being able to threaten in more phases. Even when he does not complete a submission, his grappling can force Moreno to defend, scramble and surrender minutes.
Expect a competitive fight in which Moreno still has moments, particularly in the boxing exchanges, but Morales gradually does enough to separate himself on the scorecards.
Official Brandon Moreno vs Joseph Morales prediction: Joseph Morales by unanimous decision.

Best bets for Brandon Moreno vs Joseph Morales
The Morales moneyline around -120 is the most straightforward UFC betting angle. There is enough uncertainty surrounding Moreno’s current level to justify Morales being a small favorite, but the price matters. Once Morales begins moving toward -140 or shorter, much of the value disappears.
The over 2.5 rounds is difficult to recommend at approximately -320. Moreno remains extremely difficult to put away cleanly, so the logic behind the market is understandable, but bettors are being asked to pay a significant premium.
Morales by submission is tempting based on his recent results, but Moreno is a major step up in competition. Betting purely on Morales’ recent submission streak risks overreacting to the way he beat lesser opposition.
For those who believe Moreno can reverse his decline, Moreno by decision at +175 to +210 is more appealing than his moneyline. A Moreno victory is most likely to come through his boxing volume, pace and ability to win three competitive rounds rather than through a finish.
Best bet: Joseph Morales moneyline (-120)
Value alternative: Brandon Moreno by decision (+175 to +210)
