Eros Baluyot walked into Macau unbeaten and looking steady under pressure. He walked out with his first professional loss after a fast finish from Japan’s Takeru Uchida in their Road to UFC Season 5 flyweight quarterfinal.

The bout inside Galaxy Arena barely had time to settle. One scramble on the ground changed everything, and Uchida made it count.

Early Ground Exchange Shifts the Fight Quickly

The first exchanges were brief but tense. Both fighters were careful, testing reactions rather than committing fully.

Baluyot looked for an opening once the fight hit the mat. He latched onto a guillotine choke as Uchida pushed him down, trying to slow the Japanese prospect’s forward pressure.

For a moment, there was a hint of trouble. But Uchida stayed calm. He worked his head free and avoided giving up position.

Once he cleared the danger, Uchida took over. He settled into top control, then gradually moved to side control as Baluyot tried to re-guard.

The transition to the back came quickly. Uchida slipped into position and secured a rear-naked choke. The squeeze forced Baluyot to tap at 1:18 of the opening round.

Uchida Advances While Baluyot Deals With First Defeat

Takeru Uchida moves on to the semifinals with a 9-2 record, showing sharp control in scrambles and strong positional awareness.

For Baluyot, the result is a tough moment in an otherwise promising career. The loss drops him to 7-1 and ends a run that had carried expectations into the tournament.

The setback also comes during a challenging week for Filipino fighters in the bracket. Kimbert Alintozon was also eliminated earlier after falling to Nepal’s Rabindra Dhant.

Road to UFC continues to reward small openings. A single scramble can flip a full fight, and sometimes an entire tournament path.
