The UFC’s latest blockbuster has just been announced, and Conor McGregor and Max Holloway wasted no time trading jabs on social media.

A well-timed announcement

UFC president Dana White chose a very auspicious moment to announce the Conor McGregor vs. Max Holloway rematch. While Francis Ngannou’s MVP MMA fight was airing on Netflix on Saturday, Dana announced the fight on his Instagram Live.

Social media sparks fly

Holloway, posting a promo video, captioned it: “July 11, the return of the MAX.” McGregor fired back almost immediately: “I’m gonna son you, child. Again.”

The Irishman later shared an image of him pushing Holloway’s face from their 2013 bout, declaring: “You’re gonna put some respect on my motherf—— name.”

Holloway replied with a video of nearly dropping McGregor with a headkick, adding: “Nah big dog, you’re gonna put some respect on my name.”

The rivalry dates back to 2013, when McGregor earned a unanimous decision over the then-21-year-old Holloway.

The fight will take place at 170lbs, a weight class Holloway has never fought in before. But that is about the only thing that favors McGregor. McGregor has been absent from the Octagon for over five years, while Holloway has been far more active, competing eight times with five title fights, while.

McGregor, however laughed off concerns, replying “Lol” to a fan warning of a dangerous matchup against the volume striker.

As expected, McGregor is opening as a significant underdog, with UFC betting lines at +350, marking the largest underdog he has faced in his UFC career.
