Max Griffin’s long run with the UFC has officially come to an end.

The veteran welterweight revealed Thursday that the promotion recently released him following his unanimous decision loss to Victor Valenzuela on April 25. The fight marked Griffin’s 19th appearance inside the Octagon and closed out a decade-long chapter in the UFC.

Griffin leaves the promotion with a record of 8-11 under the UFC banner. While the results were mixed over the years, he remained one of the division’s toughest veterans and shared the cage with several respected names.

Griffin says he still wants to compete

Despite the release, Griffin made it clear he has no plans to step away from fighting.

“My sh*t ain’t over,” Griffin said in a video posted to Instagram.

“I still want to fight.”

The 40-year-old also reflected on some of the close results that went against him late in his UFC career.

“My last few fights have been some shotty decisions, which is the name of the game, baby,”

“It’s the name of the game. … It’s business, man. Yeah, it’s rough. It’s rough, but it is what it is. I still want to fight.”

Memorable wins and bonus performances

During his UFC run, Griffin picked up notable victories against names such as Mike Perry, Carlos Condit, Tim Means, Ramiz Brahimaj, and Jeremiah Wells.

One of his standout moments came in March 2021 when he stopped Kenan Song by first-round TKO, earning a Performance of the Night bonus.

Griffin also earned Fight of the Night honors for his action-packed battle with Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos, a fight many fans still remember as one of the most entertaining welterweight scraps of that year.
