Paddy Pimblett is heading back into the octagon. After absorbing a tough loss this year, he is booked to face Benoit Saint Denis at UFC 329 on July 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The matchup pairs two ranked lightweights looking to stay relevant in the division that considers slowing down a rare act.
Pimblett looks to regain his momentum
Pimblett currently has a 23-4 record and a 7-1 mark in the UFC. His last match was at UFC 324, where he dropped a decision against Justin Gaethje in a brawl that tested his durability. He took significant damage across three rounds, leading many to suggest he has to take an extended time off.
Instead, Pimblett chose to return less than six months later. This signals urgency as he tries to stay within reach of the division’s top tier.
Currently ranked No. 9, Pimblett had been building linear momentum before losing. His performance against Gaethje showed toughness, but he was never able to hurt or take down “The Highlight”.
Now he is set to face off a very different stylistic matchup, one that is perhaps even more challenging.
Saint Denis riding a finish streak
Saint Denis, who is currently ranked No. 7, enters with a 17-3 record. After back-to-back losses to fighters Dustin Poirier and Renato Moicano in 2024, the French contender returned and gained back his momentum on an unfathomable showcase.
Saint Denis brings wrestling pressure, coupled with finishing ability both standing and on the ground. He has had recent success, with four finishes in a row, versus high-level opponents including. Dan Hooker, Beneil Dariush, and Mauricio Ruffy.
With both fighters ranked inside the top 10, the stakes are clear. A win keeps title hopes alive. Another loss could mean Paddy will have an impossible climb through a stacked lightweight field.
