Anthony Joshua’s immediate focus remains on boxing, but the former heavyweight champion is already looking toward a different challenge down the road. While preparing for his July 25 showdown with Kristian Prenga and keeping a potential blockbuster clash with Tyson Fury in sight, Joshua has also begun discussing the possibility of testing himself inside an MMA cage.

The British star has never hidden his interest in combat sports beyond boxing, and recent comments suggest the idea is more than a passing thought. As he continues pursuing some of the biggest fights available in boxing, Joshua is also considering what could become one of the most intriguing career moves in heavyweight combat sports.

He said in an interview with Ring Magazine.

“Believe me, I was thinking, why don’t I step over into one of their territories because they keep on coming to our territory,”

He believes a crossover into MMA would be a real test between elite combat sports.

“But it would be good if one of us went into that side and see how we get on over there.”

“It can be done”

Joshua made it clear he sees modern fight sports as one shared business landscape.

“It’s big business then,”

“MMA, kickboxing, or boxing. It can be done. I believe it should be done.”

The idea of boxers entering MMA has been attempted before, including by James Toney, who was submitted by Randy Couture in 2010.

Still, Joshua believes a major name in his prime could change how crossover fights are viewed.
