Alexander Volkanovski is training as though his next UFC title fight is already set. While the promotion has yet to make an official announcement, the featherweight champion believes Movsar Evloev is next in line for a championship opportunity.
Volkanovski Expects Evloev to Be Next
Volkanovski has been waiting for his second title defense since defeating Diego Lopes by unanimous decision at UFC 325 in February. Although no contract has been finalized, the Australian star told his Youtube channel that he believes the matchup is only awaiting confirmation.
“It’s not locked in, but it’s pretty obvious it’s probably going to be Movsar.”
With that expectation, Volkanovski has already begun adjusting his preparation.
“So get all that wrestling in nice and early.”
Undefeated Contender Awaits His Opportunity
Evloev enters the expected title fight with a perfect 20-0 professional record and has won all 10 of his UFC appearances.
Despite remaining unbeaten, questions have followed his title credentials because none of those UFC victories have come by finish. Even so, he has built an impressive résumé with wins over Lerone Murphy, former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling, and Diego Lopes, who has already challenged for UFC gold twice.
Several numbered UFC events remain on the calendar through October, November, and December, giving the promotion multiple options to schedule the long-anticipated championship clash.
Champion Already in Fight Camp
Volkanovski is not waiting for paperwork before beginning a serious training camp. While spending time in Thailand, he explained that he wants to be fully prepared once the UFC officially confirms the bout.
“Always good to be back here.”
“Good to be back in Thailand. Focus. Get stuck into it. Train hard. Get ready to ramp things up.”
Although he is still waiting on the final details, Volkanovski believes an announcement is close.
“Still nothing confirmed, but the dates I’m thinking, I need to start getting ready so we’re playing as if it’s game on.”
