Josh Hokit has stirred up controversy ahead of UFC 330 after making an alarming remark about Ian Garry’s young son.
Garry is set to challenge Islam Makhachev for the UFC welterweight title Saturday at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. His son, Leo, has also been around during fight week, as he has been for several of Garry’s recent UFC appearances.
Hokit Takes Aim at Garry’s Son
Leo recently hoped to meet Makhachev after seeing the champion during fight week. The young fan became emotional when Makhachev left before they could meet. Garry reassured his son that another opportunity would come later.
During UFC 330 media day, Makhachev addressed the moment and explained that he had not seen Leo. The champion said he planned to meet him before the end of fight week and “make him happy.”
That wholesome moment took an ugly turn when Hokit responded to the situation on social media.
“Try to play that game and have your kid shake my hand … I’d punt that f—king kid.”
The heavyweight contender’s comment quickly drew attention because it was directed at Garry’s young son rather than the fighter himself.
Valter Walker Calls Out Hokit
Hokit has developed a reputation for outspoken behavior, and his latest comment drew criticism from fellow UFC heavyweight Valter Walker.
Walker did not hold back when responding to Hokit’s post.
“Any jackass with two personalities, just so he can hide behind one of them, is a complete idiot.”
Hokit’s comments come just days before Garry steps into the biggest fight of his career.
The Irishman will attempt to take Makhachev’s welterweight championship in the UFC 330 main event. Meanwhile, Leo is still expected to get his chance to meet the champion during fight week.
