Former interim UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson already has his sights set on another high-profile fight after attending MVP MMA’s debut event in Los Angeles.
Following Mike Perry’s bloody stoppage victory over Nate Diaz, Ferguson made it clear he wants to be Perry’s next opponent.
Tony Ferguson targets Mike Perry after MVP MMA event
Perry overwhelmed Diaz throughout the fight before Diaz’s corner waved things off at the end of the second round due to severe cuts around his eyes. The stoppage sparked immediate talk of a rematch, but Ferguson believes he should be next in line.
Speaking with Fight Hub TV after the card, Ferguson revealed he has already been interested in facing Perry for some time.
“Me, I want Mike next. I’ve been wanting it already a couple of times with the boxing. I got Arman coming up in RAF. We’ll set it up for the end of the year. Let’s talk, Jake.”
Ferguson previously fought Diaz at UFC 279 in 2022, where Diaz secured a fourth-round submission win. Now the former UFC standout is looking to test himself against another fan favorite known for his aggressive style.
Ferguson says MMA fight with Perry would be chaos
When asked about a potential matchup with Perry inside an MMA cage, Ferguson predicted a much more violent contest than a boxing match.
“He says he likes to throw elbows. I’m the king of elbows. So, no animosity, but we know we can sell the (expletive) out of that card.”
A matchup between the two would likely attract major attention from fight fans. Both men have built reputations around pressure, toughness, and wild exchanges on the feet.
Tony Ferguson remains active after UFC release
Ferguson parted ways with the UFC in 2024 after a submission loss to Michael Chiesa extended his losing streak to eight fights.
Despite the rough ending to his UFC run, Ferguson has remained active across several combat sports. Since leaving the promotion, he has picked up victories over Salt Papi in professional boxing and Warren Spencer in Misfits Boxing.
The 42-year-old is also scheduled to compete against Arman Tsarukyan in an upcoming RAF wrestling match later this year.
