Bad blood finally reaches the Octagon on Saturday night in Newark, as undefeated UFC middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev defends his belt against former champion Sean Strickland in the main event of UFC 328 at Prudential Center.
The rivalry between Chimaev and Strickland has simmered for months. Heated exchanges at press conferences and online only added more tension to a matchup that already carried major title implications at middleweight. Chimaev enters the fight with a perfect 15-0 professional record and the momentum of a dominant title win over Dricus Du Plessis last August.
Strickland, meanwhile, is trying to reclaim the belt after alternating wins and losses across his past five appearances. The outspoken former champion remains one of the division’s toughest pressure fighters and has promised to drag Chimaev into a long and uncomfortable fight.
The co-main event features another title fight, as flyweight champion Joshua Van makes his first defense against undefeated contender Tatsuro Taira.
Fans can also expect a packed main card from Newark, with several ranked contenders looking to move closer to championship opportunities as the UFC returns to New Jersey for one of the promotion’s biggest cards of the year.
