Jake Paul is wasting little time pushing forward with his MMA promotion after the debut of MVP MMA last weekend.
Following the “Rousey vs. Carano” event on Netflix, Paul spoke about the future of Most Valuable Promotions and made it clear he intends to keep building the company’s MMA brand.
Jake Paul Takes Aim At UFC
Speaking during the post-fight press conference, Paul praised the launch of the promotion and hinted that another event is already being discussed behind the scenes.
“We love doing this, and don’t want to do anything that’s mid like the UFC has been doing.”
“We’re always going to hold ourselves to a higher standard, and because of that, there might be fewer events, but we’re going to do as many as we can.”
Paul also continued his ongoing rivalry with the UFC while promoting his company’s long-term ambitions.
“[UFC] knows it can’t touch me.”
MVP Implies UFC Fighters Are Reaching Out
MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian revealed that the promotion has already received interest from fighters across multiple organizations.
“I’m excited about the amount of outreach we’ve had inbound to us from current fighters, former fighters, future fighters and fighters with other promotions that shouldn’t be calling us.”
“We’re not going to be piggish in our desire to have insane profit margins.”
“We want to be fair to the fighters and pay them what we believe they are worth, which is more than other promotions.”
Bookie Odds Suggest Colby Covington Will Be on MVP MMA 2
One name already being linked to the next card is former UFC welterweight title challenger Colby Covington.
According to MMA odds, Covington currently sits as the favorite at 2/1 odds to appear on MVP MMA 2. Other names mentioned include Brad Tavares, Tai Tuivasa, Josh Culibao, and Tony Ferguson.
This however is not certain. Covington has publicly retired from the UFC, with his name removed from the rankings. Still, questions remain regarding his contractual status with the promotion.
Regardless of that, it would be interesting to see Covington versus the top talent outside of the UFC. A match with either Nate Diaz or Mike Perry could be very interesting, though the former would likely not be very competitive.
