The UFC has just delivered its most chaotic press conference in years. From the second Khamzat Chimaev and Sean Strickland sat down, the event completely spiraled away from the usual media-day format. The two middleweights barely waited for the first question before yelling at each other across the stage.
Trashtalk Gets Personal
Strickland repeatedly targeted Chimaev’s connection to Ramzan Kadyrov, while Chimaev responded with insults aimed at Strickland’s family. The UFC clearly expected problems because security guards surrounded the stage from the start, and the promotion even seated the fighters far apart during the event.
At one point, Strickland joked that the fans on one side of the room were Americans supporting him, while the opposite side belonged to Chimaev’s supporters. Chimaev quickly fired back by claiming the entire arena was cheering for him, including the American fans.
Both fighters also brought up stories from old gym sessions and claimed there had been bad blood between them for years. Chimaev suggested Strickland once avoided fighting him outside the gym, while Strickland answered by saying Chimaev backed out after they arranged to meet.
Chimaev Tries to Injure Sean?
The biggest moment came during the final faceoff. As both fighters stood nose-to-nose, Chimaev suddenly threw a push kick toward Strickland’s leg. The strike appeared to land around the upper thigh or near the knee area, and Strickland immediately reacted to it.
A lot of fans online loved the wild energy of the press conference, plenty on online pundits felt the kick crossed the line. Kicks above the knee can be dangerous because the impact forces the leg inward, creating the possibility of injury. The footage also showed Chimaev throwing the kick while wearing shoes, which made the moment look even more reckless. Fortunately, there has been no indication that Strickland suffered a serious injury.
