Dricus du Plessis says his next fight is already agreed to on his end, but the official announcement remains delayed because his opponent has yet to make it official.
In a cryptic Instagram post, the former middleweight champion suggested the holdup isn’t coming from him.
Du Plessis Says He’s Already Signed
“A little someone agreed to a fight but actually signing the dotted line isn’t that easy when you know you’re just signing for a show purse.”
“The announcement is taking longer than expected but from my side it’s been signed and sealed for a while.”
While du Plessis didn’t mention a name, recent speculation has linked him to a potential middleweight clash with former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.
Du Plessis has not competed since losing the middleweight title to Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 319. Before that setback, the South African had won his first nine UFC appearances, including victories over Sean Strickland, Israel Adesanya, and Robert Whittaker.
If the rumored matchup materializes, it would mark Usman’s second appearance at 185 pounds. The former welterweight king is coming off a unanimous decision win over Joaquin Buckley, which snapped a three-fight losing streak.
