Josh Hokit post-fight interview in UFC Freedom 250 (Credits UFC India Youtube)
Josh Hokit left UFC Freedom 250 with another win on his record, but much of the discussion afterward centered on what he said rather than what he did inside the cage.
The undefeated heavyweight continued his rise up the division on Sunday with a second-round TKO victory over Derrick Lewis at the White House event. The finish over the UFC’s all-time knockout leader pushed Hokit further into the heavyweight rankings and strengthened his case as a contender.
“Michelle Obama is a man”
During his post-fight appearance, Hokit made a controversial remark about former First Lady Michelle Obama while staying in character, somewhat jokingling spreading the hoax that she is a. The comment quickly spread across social media, with countless political social media accounts expressing their outrage.
While we can assume that the Obama’s were not happy about this statement, especially on the White House lawn, so far they have not commented. That did not stop social media though. The past week, hundreds of posts have been shared, claiming that Michelle Obama plans to sue Josh Hokit, though those have been exposed as a hoax.
Cormier Calls Out Hokit’s Post-Fight Remarks
Now, one of the sport’s legends has spoken out. Former UFC champion and current broadcast analyst Daniel Cormier did not hold back when discussing the moment, describing Hokit’s character as “lame as f*ck.”
Here is his quote:
“It was completely uncalled for. Josh has been to my gym and he wasn’t doing the whole character thing. He’s just a normal dude, he’s a good fighter and a great athlete.”
“It was an unnecessary shot on her. That’s the type of statement that divides. I absolutely hated that.”
“He needs to do better. There was no gain in Josh Hokit doing that. It was disgusting. Get it together dude.”
😳🧐 DC calls Josh Hokit's gimmicks 'lame as f*ck' and says that he 'absolutely hated' the comment about Michelle Obama:
"It was completely uncalled for. Josh has been to my gym and he wasn't doing the whole character thing. He's just a normal dude, he's a good fighter and a… pic.twitter.com/ZBbQDbIPJQ
Hokit has since embraced the backlash and argued that a double standard exists when it comes to reactions toward controversial statements.
UFC CEO Dana White also addressed the situation. While White said he condemns the comment, he pointed to his long-standing stance on free speech when discussing the fallout.
For what it is worth, it seems that Josh Hokit has his desired result. The controversy has kept Hokit in the spotlight following the biggest victory of his UFC career. Whoever he fights next, be it Alex Pereira, Jamahal Hil (who has recently called him out), or even Paulo Costa, one thing is for sure: he will be one of the most talked about fighters on the card.
And that my friends, is how you self promote as a fighter in 2026.
