Sean O’Malley enters UFC Freedom 250 as one of the biggest favorites on the card, but Aiemann Zahabi’s 7-fight str suggests this matchup may be more competitive than the odds indicate.

Here are my predictions for Sean O’Malley vs Aiemann Zahabi at UFC Freedom 250.

Sean O’Malley vs Aiemann Zahabi Odds

Odds: Sean O’Malley -430 (1.23) | Aiemann Zahabi +330 (4.30)

Aiemann Zahabi’s streak deserves respect

The betting line suggests a mismatch, but Zahabi has earned his place in this fight. The Tristar product has won seven straight contests and owns recent victories over Marlon Vera, José Aldo, Pedro Munhoz, and Javid Basharat. He is not flashy. He is not explosive. What he does bring is discipline, durability, and a very high fight IQ.

Just as important, Zahabi has one of the best coaching teams in the sport behind him. Firas Zahabi remains one of MMA’s most respected strategists, and few corners make better adjustments during a fight.

Still, there are legitimate questions surrounding the quality of some of Zahabi’s recent wins. His victories over Aldo and Vera were razor-close affairs. Many observers felt Aldo had done enough to win their fight, especially after badly hurting Zahabi during the bout.

Durability has become one of Zahabi’s greatest strengths. He has survived heavy shots, rallied after adversity, and consistently found ways to win close rounds. At 38 years old, however, there are signs that his durability is being tested more frequently. He has been dropped in multiple recent fights (Aldo and Vera) and now faces the most accurate striker he has ever shared the cage with.

His best path to victory will probably be to emulate Merab Dvalishvili. He will likely need to throw volume, push Sean against the fence, and go for constant takedowns. If he wins, it will likely be by decision.

Sean O’Malley has already fought at a higher level

While Zahabi’s momentum is impressive, O’Malley’s résumé remains significantly stronger. The former bantamweight champion has spent years competing against elite contenders and champions. Wins over Aljamain Sterling, Marlon Vera, and Song Yadong came against opponents who present more dangerous striking threats than Zahabi.

O’Malley’s greatest weapon remains his precision. Few fighters in the division manage distance as effectively. His footwork, stance-switching, and ability to land clean shots from range make him one of the most difficult fighters to prepare for.

The matchup itself appears favorable for O’Malley. Zahabi’s striking is fundamentally sound but relatively straightforward. Most of what he throws is something O’Malley has already seen from more explosive and more athletic opponents.

If O’Malley maintains his range, stays disciplined, and avoids unnecessary exchanges, he should consistently land the cleaner and more impactful shots throughout the fight.

Minutes versus moments

The most interesting aspect of this matchup is how the rounds will be scored.

Zahabi’s path to victory likely involves winning the minutes. As I mentioned, he needs to pressure forward, stay active, and bank volume. If he can force O’Malley into a pace vs pace battle where output becomes a factor, he can make rounds competitive or even win rounds.

The problem is that O’Malley tends to win the moments. When exchanges happen, O’Malley is usually the fighter landing the shot that gets everyone’s attention. Judges remember the clean right hand, the sharp counter, or the strike that visibly hurts an opponent. Those moments often outweigh stretches of less impactful volume.

For Zahabi to pull off the upset, he must consistently win the activity battle while avoiding the damaging shots that O’Malley routinely lands. That is a difficult task over fifteen minutes.

Sean O’Malley vs Aiemann Zahabi prediction

Zahabi is better than the odds suggest. His toughness, experience, and coaching staff make him a live underdog. He is unlikely to panic under the spotlight and should be prepared for whatever O’Malley brings.

At the same time, this looks like a step down in competition for O’Malley after facing Song Yadong and the elite names at the top of the division.

The former champion owns the advantages in speed, reach, striking variety, and overall athleticism. As long as he respects Zahabi’s durability and avoids getting drawn into a low-output fight, he should be able to control the action from the outside.

Zahabi is likely tough enough to hear the final horn, but O’Malley’s accuracy should separate the two fighters by the end of round two.
