Tom Aspinall is watching the UFC heavyweight picture closely from the sidelines. With Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane set to clash, the champion already sees his next big test forming in real time.
The UFC title landscape could shift again on June 14, and Aspinall knows both possible outcomes come with major stakes for his return.
Aspinall split between revenge and blockbuster matchup
Tom Aspinall is recovering from his last outing against Ciryl Gane, a fight that ended in a no-contest after an eye poke halted their heavyweight title clash.
Now, Gane is back in the spotlight, meeting Alex Pereira for an interim heavyweight title at UFC White House. For Aspinall, both men represent future opponents. He expressed his thoughts for the upcoming fight of Pereira vs. Gane and his future plans in a Youtube Video with Fight Your Corner.
“I want revenge, of course.”
“But also, there’s an argument to say that me and Pereira would be a bigger fight. I don’t know, they’re both big fights aren’t they? Pereira’s got a massive fanbase, massive, like globally.”
The heavyweight champion sees either direction as a major event once he returns to unify the division.
Aspinall’s Breakdown of Pereira vs Gane
Aspinall broke down how the matchup could play out, especially with Pereira moving up after success at middleweight and light heavyweight.
He praised Pereira’s rise but questioned how his power and durability translate at heavyweight.
“First of all, he’s an absolute generational talent, Alex Pereira,” Aspinall said. “If he wins this fight, even if it’s an interim title, it’ll be the first person ever to win three different weights, which is unbelievable.”
He also pointed to size and resistance as key factors in the division jump.
“He carries a lot of power at light heavy and middle, but he’s also fighting a lot smaller guys whose punch resistance is a lot less. So, in my opinion, a big factor of why he’s knocking these guys out is because he’s a lot bigger than them.”
Gane, in contrast, brings movement and heavyweight experience, something Aspinall believes could shape the fight. Aspinal made his own prediction:
“I would say Gane by points, I think he’s just going to move too much for him and beat him on points.”
