Chase Hooper wasted little time getting back into the win column on Saturday night, submitting Mitch Ramirez in the opening round of their lightweight bout at UFC Oklahoma inside Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.
Hooper Back on Track After Tough Stretch
The victory marked an important rebound for Hooper, who entered the event looking to snap a two-fight skid after suffering consecutive knockout losses. Before that setback, the 26-year-old had built momentum with five straight victories and was beginning to establish himself as a rising contender in the division.
Across the cage stood Ramirez, who was also searching for a much-needed win, but Hooper quickly took control of the matchup.
Early Grappling Leads to Quick Finish
Hooper immediately closed the distance and secured a takedown, putting Ramirez on the defensive from the opening exchanges. Ramirez briefly looked for a reversal, but Hooper stayed composed and smoothly worked his way into a dominant position on his opponent’s back.
Once there, Hooper patiently searched for the finish before locking in a rear-naked choke just over a minute into the fight. Ramirez fought the hands for a few moments, but the submission was fully secured, forcing him to tap and ending the contest in the first round.
The win gives Hooper his ninth victory inside the UFC Octagon and provides a timely boost after a difficult stretch, reminding fans of the grappling skills that have long made him one of the promotion’s most dangerous submission specialists.
