Jiri Prochazka continues to prepare for competition in ways few fighters would ever consider.

The former UFC light heavyweight champion has long embraced training methods inspired by the samurai bushido philosophy. Over the years, fans have watched him spar while blindfolded, swim beneath frozen water, and complete intense sprint drills without taking a breath. His latest ritual adds another unique chapter to that list.

Prochazka embraces stinging nettles ceremony

Prochazka recently shared a video of himself walking into a patch of stinging nettles, a plant known for its tiny hairs that release compounds causing a painful burning sensation when they come into contact with the skin.

According to the Czech contender in his Instagram post, the ritual represents the transition from spring to summer and serves as a form of physical and mental renewal.

β€œA ceremonial strengthening with nettles to mark the end of spring and the beginning of summer,”

β€œAll night, body tingling, but the next day, one feels cleansed and reborn.”

Former champion looking to bounce back

Prochazka enters the next phase of his career following a setback in his most recent outing. He challenged for the vacant UFC light heavyweight title against Carlos Ulberg at UFC 327 in April but was stopped in the opening round after appearing to trouble Ulberg with his leg kicks early in the fight.

Despite that defeat, Prochazka remains one of the division’s most dangerous finishers. He has earned six UFC victories, all by stoppage, with his only losses in the promotion coming against Ulberg and former champion Alex Pereira.
