Jon Jones may not have competed at UFC 329, but the former heavyweight champion still found himself at the center of attention during fight week.
Jones was in the corner of Gable Steveson, who made a successful UFC debut on the card. Being back in the environment of a major UFC event appears to have reignited some of the competitive feelings that have followed Jones throughout his career.
While questions remain about his future inside the Octagon, Jones recently offered a clearer picture of where things stand.
Jones Keeps the Door Open for Another Fight
Speaking to Ring Magazine, Jones revealed that he remains enrolled in the UFC’s anti-doping program, a requirement for fighters who intend to stay eligible for competition.
“I keep the door open.”
“I’m in the UFC’s drug testing pool. I get drug tested, blood tested all the time. If I get that calling from maybe the higher powers, then I’m gonna have to answer that call.”
The comments suggest that despite recent uncertainty surrounding his status, Jones has not completely closed the chapter on his fighting career.
UFC Relationship Remains Intact
Jones also addressed his standing with the UFC after reports of tension following discussions about competing on the proposed UFC White House card.
Although negotiations never materialized, Jones indicated that his relationship with UFC CEO Dana White remains positive.
“As long as I’m in the drug testing pool, the UFC are contractually obligated to offer me a few fights a year. I haven’t heard anything from them in a while.”
Jones further described White as a “homie for life,” downplaying any speculation that their disagreements had permanently damaged the relationship.
Heavyweight Options Continue to Circulate
The timing of Jones’ comments is notable as speculation around a potential return continues to grow. The former two-division champion has recently been linked to several possible opponents, including former light heavyweight king Alex Pereira, who has reportedly expressed interest in moving up for a heavyweight matchup later this year.
For now, Jones remains focused on family life and coaching responsibilities. Still, his continued presence in the UFC testing pool leaves the possibility of another walk to the Octagon very much alive.
