The UFC’s return to China has reportedly added another matchup to its lineup, as Kevin Borjas is expected to face Rei Tsuruya in a flyweight bout at UFC Fight Night 286 on Aug. 29 at the Shanghai Indoor Stadium. The promotion has yet to officially announce the fight.
Flyweight contenders look to gain momentum
Borjas, a Dana White’s Contender Series alumnus, owns a 2-4 UFC record and is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Andre Lima.
Tsuruya earned his UFC contract through Road to UFC and has posted a 2-1 record inside the Octagon. After suffering his first professional loss to current flyweight champion Joshua Van, the Japanese prospect rebounded with a first-round rear-naked choke submission win over Luis Gurule.
The reported flyweight matchup joins a UFC Shanghai card headlined by a bantamweight clash between former title challenger Umar Nurmagomedov and China’s Song Yadong.
