The UFC has lined up an intriguing bantamweight clash for UFC 331, with Marlon Vera set to welcome Charles Jourdain into the division. The bout is expected to take place on Sept. 19 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. Vera’s management confirmed the news on social media.

Vera looking to end difficult skid

The stakes could not be much higher for the former title challenger. Vera enters the contest carrying a four-fight losing streak after dropping decisions to Sean O’Malley, Deiveson Figueiredo, Aiemann Zahabi, and David Martinez. His latest defeat came earlier this year, leaving the Ecuadorian veteran searching for his first victory since beating Pedro Munhoz at UFC 292 in 2023.

That stretch has seen Vera’s position in the division take a significant hit. Once fighting for UFC gold, he now finds himself defending his No. 10 spot in the rankings against one of the hottest names at 135 pounds.

Charles Jourdain building momentum at bantamweight

Jourdain has looked like a different fighter since moving down from featherweight. The Canadian has won all three of his bantamweight appearances, earning a Performance of the Night bonus in each outing. He opened his run with a submission victory over Victor Henry before finishing Davey Grant in the opening round. Most recently, he added another impressive result by defeating former Top 15 contender Kyler Phillips.

His strong run has already earned him recognition in the Meta UFC Rankings, where he currently sits at No. 12. A win over a longtime ranked opponent like Vera would strengthen his case for a spot in the UFC’s official Top 15 rankings.

High stakes for both contenders

The matchup gives both fighters plenty to fight for. Vera is aiming to halt the longest losing streak of his UFC career and prove he still belongs among the division’s top contenders. Jourdain, meanwhile, has the opportunity to score the biggest victory of his bantamweight run and continue his rapid climb in one of the UFC’s deepest weight classes.
