The unbeaten UFC newcomer will face veteran contender Mateusz Gamrot in the main event of UFC Vegas 120 on Aug. 8 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The lightweight matchup pits one of the division’s hottest rising stars against a proven top-10 mainstay.
A major test for Salkilld
Salkilld enters the bout with a 12-1 professional record and plenty of momentum behind him.
Since earning a UFC contract through Dana White’s Contender Series, the Australian has gone 5-0 inside the Octagon. Four of those wins came by first-round knockout, and four earned “Performance of the Night” bonuses.
His UFC debut lasted only 19 seconds when he stopped Anshul Jubli. He later added a decision victory over Yanal Ashmouz before producing one of the year’s most talked-about finishes with a head-kick knockout of Nasrat Haqparast.
Salkilld’s most recent performance may have been his most important. He knocked out former title challenger Beneil Dariush at UFC Perth, a win that pushed him into the lightweight rankings and accelerated his rise toward contention.
Gamrot looks to defend his spot among the elite
Mateusz Gamrot enters this fight as the more seasoned veteran. The Polish standout has compiled a 26-4 professional record and is set to headline his fourth UFC event.
He bounced back in impressive fashion at UFC 327, securing a second-round submission over Esteban Ribovics after suffering a main-event loss to former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira in Rio.
That defeat has done little to change Gamrot’s standing in the division. With a 9-4 UFC record, he has consistently tested himself against elite competition and owns notable victories over Arman Tsarukyan, Rafael dos Anjos, Rafael Fiziev, and Jalin Turner.
High stakes in Las Vegas
For Gamrot, the fight is an opportunity to protect his place in the lightweight elite and move closer to another run at the title picture.
For Salkilld, it is a chance to prove that the hype is real against one of the division’s most accomplished competitors.
No additional bouts have been announced for UFC Vegas 120 yet, but the main event alone gives fans a compelling clash.
