The UFC heads to Serbia for the first time on August 1, and the promotion has built the event around one man. Uroš Medić gets the biggest opportunity of his career when he headlines in front of his home crowd against veteran Daniel Rodriguez. Here is my full Uroš Medić vs. Daniel Rodriguez prediction.

On paper, Rodriguez enters on a three-fight winning streak. However, the circumstances surrounding this fight make it one of the most intriguing betting spots on the entire card. Medić has become one of the UFC’s fastest-rising welterweights after scoring highlight-reel knockouts over Geoff Neal and Muslim Salikhov, while Rodriguez returns after a lengthy absence that included eight months in a Mexican prison.

Can the veteran spoil Serbia’s historic night, or is this the breakout performance that launches Medić into the rankings?

What the odds tell us

Medić opened around -298 before bettors quickly pushed the Serbian all the way toward the -390 range. Rodriguez, meanwhile, drifted from approximately +240 to +310. The movement makes sense.

Medić enters on a four-fight winning streak, has finished every opponent during that stretch, and now competes in front of a home crowd for the UFC’s first-ever event in Serbia. Rodriguez is nearly 40 years old and returns after an eight-month layoff that severely disrupted his preparation. UFC bookies clearly expect the younger, faster fighter to continue his momentum.

Keys to victory

Uroš Medić

  • Pressure Rodriguez before he settles into rhythm.
  • Land the straight left through the middle.
  • Force striking exchanges instead of prolonged clinch battles.

Daniel Rodriguez

  • Slow the pace immediately.
  • Mix clinch work and dirty boxing.
  • Extend the fight into the championship rounds.

Can D-Rod survive the early storm?

Daniel Rodriguez deserves credit for rebuilding momentum with three straight wins over Kevin Holland, Santiago Ponzinibbio, and Alex Morono. He’s a technical boxer with a solid jab, respectable power, and a good allround game. Despite being a 39-year-old veteran, he only has five losses on his record.

But this fight has a troubling lead-up. Rodriguez enters the biggest main event of his career after spending eight months in a Mexican jail following an arrest at the U.S.-Mexico border. According to Rodriguez himself, he lost approximately 15 pounds of muscle, had limited access to training, slept poorly, and was only allowed outside a couple of times per week to exercise.

Even if he’s fully healthy now, that’s an enormous setback for a 39-year-old fighter preparing to face one of the fastest-rising welterweights in the UFC.

His path to victory hasn’t changed. Rodriguez needs to slow the fight immediately. Clinch whenever possible. Lean on Medić against the fence. Attack the legs and drag the fight into the later rounds, where questions about Medić’s cardio become more relevant.

Still, standing at range and trading with a younger, faster knockout artist after such a disrupted preparation feels like a recipe for disaster.

Serbia may have found its next star

Every time Medić steps into the Octagon, something dramatic happens. Eleven of his thirteen wins have come by knockout. His last four victories all ended inside the distance, including devastating finishes over Muslim Salikhov and Geoff Neal.

Medić closes distance exceptionally well. His straight left hand arrives with almost no telegraph, and he rarely sacrifices defensive positioning while throwing combinations. Even when opponents survive the initial burst, he remains patient enough to pick openings rather than chasing reckless finishes.

His takedown defense has quietly improved as well, making it difficult for opponents to completely change the fight. That’s significant here because Rodriguez isn’t likely to find consistent wrestling success. If this remains a striking battle, Medić simply holds too many advantages. He’s younger, faster and throws straighter combinations. He lands with greater accuracy. And perhaps most importantly, he starts far quicker than Rodriguez typically does.

Uroš Medić vs. Daniel Rodriguez prediction

It is clear that the UFC matchmaking is designed to create a breakout moment for the Serbian star. The UFC is entering Serbia for the first time and has built the event around its hometown hero. While promotions don’t determine outcomes, the stylistic matchup certainly favors Medić.

Rodriguez remains dangerous enough to land a clean counter if Medić gets reckless. The problem is that Medić rarely gives opponents enough time to settle. His speed advantage should become obvious almost immediately, and Rodriguez’s tendency to start slowly is a dangerous habit against someone who attacks with explosive combinations from the opening bell.

Could Rodriguez survive and drag Medić into deep waters? Possibly. But do I expect him to? No. Medić should find the target before Rodriguez establishes any rhythm and finish the veteran before the fight reaches the championship rounds. I predict a 2nd round TKO.
