The boxing community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of WBC women’s featherweight contender Hannah Rapp, who died on Saturday following an alleged road rage incident in Brazos County, Texas.
Suspect Arrested on Manslaughter Charge
According to the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office, Rapp was riding her bicycle when a driver allegedly stopped, reversed the vehicle, and backed over her. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities arrested 31-year-old Charles Medina, who has since been charged with manslaughter in connection with the incident.
WBC Pays Tribute
WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman honored Rapp following the tragic news, paying tribute to the rising featherweight contender and expressing condolences to her family, friends, and the boxing community.
“The loss of Hannah Rapp leaves us heartbroken.”
“She was an exceptional boxer, but above all, an invaluable member of our boxing family.”
Rising Prospect Remembered
Rapp turned professional in 2024 and quickly emerged as one of the brightest prospects in women’s boxing, compiling an 8-1 record before earning a shot at Tiara Brown’s WBC featherweight title in June. Although she dropped a unanimous decision in her first world title bid, her performance earned widespread respect.
Brown paid tribute to her former opponent on social media following the heartbreaking news.
“The best dance partner I have ever faced as a pro.”
