Diyar Nurgozhay delivered a much-needed statement at UFC Vegas 120, stopping Bruno Lopes with just one second remaining in the opening round.

The light heavyweight prospects traded strikes Saturday night at the revamped Meta Apex in Las Vegas. Nurgozhay eventually found the opening he needed and closed the show in dramatic fashion.

Nurgozhay Finds His Opening

Both fighters entered the matchup with reputations as dangerous strikers, setting the stage for an aggressive opening round.

Lopes had his moments, but Nurgozhay began to take control as the clock moved toward the final minute.

With roughly 30 seconds remaining, Nurgozhay landed a clean left hand to the temple. The shot badly hurt Lopes and forced him to retreat toward the fence.

Nurgozhay immediately followed.

One Second Changes Everything

Nurgozhay tracked Lopes down along the cage and continued throwing combinations.

An uppercut landed cleanly, followed by a shot to the body. Nurgozhay then connected with a left hook upstairs, leaving Lopes unable to properly defend himself.

The referee quickly stepped in to stop the fight.

There was almost no time left. The official stoppage came with just one second remaining in the first round.

After a difficult stretch trying to establish himself in the UFC, Nurgozhay finally produced the kind of finish that had made him such an intriguing light heavyweight prospect.
