Jalin Turner returns against rising Brazilian Kauê Fernandes in an intriguing lightweight matchup between two dangerous strikers. Turner enters as the favorite, but the betting line suggests there are still plenty of questions surrounding “The Tarantula.” Here are my predictions for Jalin Turner vs Kauê Fernandes.

Which version of Turner will we see?

Turner looked like a future lightweight title contender at his best, but losses to Dan Hooker, Renato Moicano and Ignacio Bahamondes stalled his momentum. He even briefly retired following the Bahamondes defeat before returning to knock out Edson Barboza in the first round at UFC 323.

Fernandes, meanwhile, has quietly put together three straight UFC victories. The Brazilian now gets his biggest opportunity yet against a fighter who will have a significant size and reach advantage. The big question is whether Fernandes can survive long enough to make Turner uncomfortable.

Jalin Turner vs Kauê Fernandes odds

Turner opened around -180, but money has come in on Fernandes and pushed the line considerably closer at UFC betting sites.

FighterAmerican oddsDecimal odds
Jalin Turner-155 to -1621.62–1.65
Kauê Fernandes+130 to +1452.30–2.45

That movement is interesting because there is a legitimate argument that the best version of Turner would be a much bigger favorite in this matchup.

The market appears concerned about Turner’s consistency, his difficult weight cut to 155 pounds and the circumstances surrounding his brief retirement. Fernandes also presents a potentially troublesome weapon with his low kicks.

Still, the closer this line gets, the more attractive Turner becomes.

Jalin Turner: Still one of lightweight’s most dangerous early finishers

Turner’s 15-9 record doesn’t tell the entire story. At 6’3″ with a 77-inch reach, he is enormous for the lightweight division. More importantly, he knows how to use that size offensively. Turner can hurt opponents with straight punches from range and becomes extremely dangerous once he senses that someone is compromised.

Just ask King Green or Edson Barboza. Turner stopped both veterans in the opening round, and his December 2025 victory over Barboza was an important reminder of what he can still do.

The problem comes when Turner cannot impose himself early. He has historically been much more dangerous in the first two rounds than late in fights. Hooker survived his biggest attacks and eventually dragged him into an exhausting battle. Moicano also survived some dangerous moments before turning the fight around.

There are also questions about Turner’s mentality following his brief retirement. He returned successfully against Barboza, but one knockout win doesn’t necessarily erase all of those concerns. Turner is dangerous when he is the hammer. We still don’t know how much we can trust him when he becomes the nail.

Kauê Fernandes: Are the leg kicks the key?

Fernandes enters at 11-2 and has won three straight since dropping a split decision to Marc Diakiese in his UFC debut.

His most impressive weapon might be his kicking game. Fernandes completely compromised Harry Hardwick with leg kicks in his last appearance, eventually earning a first-round TKO. He also has good movement from the outside and isn’t afraid to attack different levels with his kicks. Those leg kicks are particularly interesting against Turner.

Turner is a tall southpaw who can be heavy on his lead leg. Fernandes doesn’t necessarily need to attack Turner’s head immediately. Repeatedly chopping away at that leg could take away some of Turner’s movement and make the massive reach difference easier to overcome. The problem is everything that has to happen before that strategy begins paying dividends.

Fernandes will be giving up roughly six inches in height and four inches in reach. His boxing defense isn’t flawless either, and he can be hittable while working his way into kicking range. That’s a dangerous flaw against Turner.

Can Kauê Fernandes survive the opening rounds?

This is the fight. If Fernandes gets through the opening 10 minutes without absorbing major damage, the matchup could change dramatically.

Turner has shown that his effectiveness can decline as fights become longer, uglier and more exhausting. Fernandes could start finding more opportunities with his kicks as Turner slows down.

That’s where the underdog becomes interesting. But predicting Fernandes to win essentially requires predicting him to survive Turner’s most dangerous phase.

I’m not convinced he does. Fernandes is tough, but toughness isn’t necessarily an advantage when you’re standing in front of someone with Turner’s finishing ability. Turner can punish defensive mistakes extremely quickly, and Fernandes is hittable enough that I expect those opportunities to appear.

The Brazilian may land several nasty low kicks early. He might even make Turner uncomfortable. But every exchange gives Turner an opportunity to land something considerably more damaging.

Jalin Turner vs Kauê Fernandes prediction

There are enough questions surrounding Turner that laying a huge favorite price would be uncomfortable. At around -155, however, I’m willing to take the risk.

Fernandes has legitimate weapons. His movement and low kicks could become increasingly important if this reaches the second half of the fight. If Turner slows down, Fernandes may even take over. I just don’t trust him to get there.

Turner’s height, reach and early finishing ability create a brutal matchup for a fighter who can be hit. I expect Fernandes to attack the legs immediately, but doing so repeatedly means entering Turner’s range.

Sooner rather than later, Turner catches him. A straight left or combination hurts Fernandes, Turner smells the finish, and the fight doesn’t make it out of the opening round.

Jalin Turner vs Kauê Fernandes prediction: Jalin Turner, Round 1, TKO

Best BetJalin Turner by KO/TKO (+175)

Best bet

Turner by KO/TKO at around +175 UFC odds is my favorite betting angle. The moneyline is playable at roughly -155, but Turner’s clearest advantage is his ability to do serious damage before his cardio and consistency become factors.

Fernandes’ low kicks become increasingly dangerous the longer the fight lasts, so rather than paying juice on Turner simply to win, I prefer backing his most likely route to victory. The Fight Does Not Go to Distance is another option, but Turner’s plus-money knockout prop offers the better combination of price and matchup.
