Shavkat Rakhmonov appears to be making significant progress in his recovery. The undefeated UFC welterweight contender has been sidelined since beating Ian Machado Garry by unanimous decision at UFC 310, nearly 20 months ago.

Rakhmonov Shows Positive Progress

Rakhmonov entered the Garry fight with a knee issue that was reportedly aggravated during the bout. He later underwent another knee surgery earlier this year, further delaying his return.

New training footage now shows “Nomad” sparring with much more confidence. He can be seen putting weight on his repaired knee, defending takedowns and attempting submissions.

There is still no confirmed return date, but the footage is an encouraging sign for the 31-year-old contender. Rakhmonov has seven UFC wins, six by finish, and remains the only fighter to defeat Garry.

He previously indicated that his recovery could keep him out for another nine to 10 months. If he eventually returns, Rakhmonov will likely need at least one fight before getting another shot at the welterweight title.
