A familiar name from Dana White’s “Contender Series” has already found a new home. Daniel Marcos is headed to the Professional Fighters League after an unexpected UFC exit that left the bantamweight with questions.
He is only one of the many fighters in the organization who has been released without further notice.
The 33-year-old enters the PFL with a strong 18-1 record and off a 5-1 run inside the UFC before his release following a recent win over Miles Johns.
Marcos joins PFL after UFC exit
Marcos did not spend long on the free agent market. The bantamweight has signed with PFL and is expected to compete in the SmartCage later this year.
The move came shortly after his departure from the UFC roster, a decision that caught him off guard.
“Since my last fight in November, I did exactly what was asked of me,”
“I finished my opponent, and since December, I have stayed ready to compete again. I spent months training, going through fight camps, and waiting for an opportunity.”
“A negotiation never materialized; a contract renewal never came.”
Marcos reacts to UFC release
Marcos said he never received a clear reason for his exit from the promotion despite staying active and prepared.
“In the end, the decision was made not to continue with me — and to this day, I still lack a clear explanation as to why.”
He also made it clear he is moving forward without changing his mindset or approach to fighting.
“My mindset remains unchanged. I continue to train, I continue to grow, and I remain ready to compete.”
This seems to be a somewhat strange move by the UFC, releasing a top prospect who is coming off a finish win.
