Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier spent years building one of the UFC’s most memorable rivalries. Despite their differences, McGregor is hoping the retired former interim lightweight champion can overcome the personal struggles he is currently facing.

Poirier recently made headlines following an arrest for public drunkenness at an airport. Video of the incident circulated online, showing a confrontation involving airline staff and law enforcement. The former UFC title challenger later apologized and said he intends to make positive changes moving forward.

Ahead of his UFC 329 return, McGregor addressed the situation and shared his thoughts on Poirier’s path forward.

McGregor Warns Against Downplaying the Incident

Speaking on “Smash Cast,” McGregor said he hopes Poirier takes the situation seriously and avoids treating it as a harmless mistake.

“Karma is a mirror.”

“It’s not good to see.”

“If I was to say something to him, I would say, take this with absolute seriousness. Do not engage in people.”

Accountability Remains the Key Message

During his discussion, McGregor also emphasized the importance of personal responsibility. Poirier recently reflected on how alcohol affected his father’s life and the impact it had on his family while addressing the incident publicly.

McGregor believes accountability is an important part of moving forward.

“He has to take accountability.”

“I seen something, he came out, his father – he blamed his father. You have to take accountability, my man.”

“I hope he comes right.”
