Jake Paul is nearing a return to full-contact training after spending months recovering from a broken jaw, and the social media star turned boxer is already thinking beyond the boxing ring.
Paul revealed this week that he expects medical clearance to resume sparring soon as discussions continue regarding his next fight.
Paul Nearing Full Recovery
Paul has been sidelined since suffering a broken jaw in his heavyweight showdown against Anthony Joshua last December. The injury required two surgeries and kept him away from sparring throughout his recovery.
Despite the setback, Paul said a comeback is approaching.
“I’m definitely still fighting.”
“We’re in talks right now with multiple opponents and just figuring out when we’re going to come back.”
Later, he provided an update on his rehabilitation.
“I’m going to get cleared officially to spar in the next couple of weeks so we’re going to get back to it.”
MMA Move Remains on the Table
While planning his boxing return, Paul also revealed that an MMA debut remains a serious possibility.
“Maybe I’ll do some MMA, we’ve got a lot of stuff with MVP coming soon, big promotions getting more into the whole MMA world.”
Paul pointed to a long-discussed matchup with Nate Diaz as a potential option.
“I want to do MMA, we’ve been trying to make the Nate Diaz MMA fight happen for a long time.”
Confident About Learning the Sport
Although Paul has yet to train in mixed martial arts, he believes his wrestling and boxing background could help ease the transition.
“I’d fight Brock, I wrestled division one in Ohio.”
“I’ve never practiced MMA, but I’ve wrestled and boxed so I just need to learn the kicks and jiu-jitsu.”
Paul also joked about his chances of adapting to grappling.
“I’m part Jewish, so I feel like I’d be good at jiu-jitsu!”
