Justin Gaethje may still be undecided about his fighting future, but one thing appears certain. A rematch with Paddy Pimblett is not high on his list. The reigning UFC lightweight champion addressed the possibility of facing Pimblett again following UFC 329, where “The Baddy” scored a quick submission win over Benoit Saint-Denis.
Gaethje Shuts Down Rematch Possibility
During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Gaethje was asked whether he sees himself sharing the Octagon with Pimblett again.
“Destined for each other to fight again? No.”
The former BMF champion has not announced whether he plans to defend his title or retire following his stunning victory over Ilia Topuria at UFC Freedom 250 last month.
Champion Reflects on Impact of Topuria Upset
Rather than discussing potential opponents, Gaethje spoke about the reaction to his championship-winning performance.
“I think it’s crazy what my story has done for so many people.”
“It’s pretty cool across the board. All athletes respect our sport because it’s so humbling, so primal.”
Pimblett Calls for Another Title Opportunity
Pimblett boosted his stock at UFC 329 with a 52-second submission victory over Saint-Denis in Las Vegas. After the fight, he expressed interest in another run at UFC gold and named Gaethje as a potential target.
The two previously met at UFC 324, where Gaethje earned a dominant victory. For now, the lightweight division remains in a holding pattern as Gaethje weighs his next move. Meanwhile, contenders such as Arman Tsarukyan and Charles Oliveira remain firmly in the championship conversation.
