Darren Till has weighed in on the latest controversy surrounding Ian Machado Garry, and the former UFC title challenger did not hold back.
Till told TheMacLife that he believes Garry’s outspoken personality has hurt his image and questioned whether the Irish welterweight comes across as genuine.
Till Criticizes Garry’s Recent Comments
Garry has regularly attracted attention for his comments outside the cage. His latest remarks came during the media buildup to UFC 330, where he suggested the world would be better if women were in charge.
The comment drew criticism from several fighters, including Till.
“I don’t hate Ian Garry. “But I just think every time that guy speaks, he just absolutely tarnishes his brand, his image, by what he’s talking about.”
Till explained that he has no issue with Garry supporting women. His criticism is directed at the way the contender presents himself publicly.
“Look, I’m a guy for the power of the women. I have four girls and me missus and stuff like that. Powerful women, of course, we love that, but it’s just the things he says.”
Till also suggested that Garry’s personality could be holding him back with fans.
“And it’s always like he’s trying to buy love. If he was a bit more like me, mate, people would love him, because he’s obviously a great fighter.”
‘He’s Got Fake Written All Over Him’
Till then delivered his bluntest assessment of Garry.
“People can see and know a fake guy. And he’s got fake written all over him.”
The criticism comes just days before Garry steps into the biggest fight of his career.
Garry is scheduled to challenge Islam Makhachev for the UFC welterweight championship in the UFC 330 main event next Saturday.
Till, meanwhile, is preparing for his own major matchup. The former UFC welterweight title challenger is set to face Yoel Romero in the BKFC 94 main event on Sept. 24.
