Edson Barboza has spent more than 15 years producing violence inside the Octagon. At UFC 330, the UFC is asking the 40-year-old Brazilian to do it again against one of the most dangerous young strikers in the lightweight division. Here are my official predictions for Edson Barboza vs Esteban Ribovics.

Brutal veteran vs prospect matchmaking by the UFC!

Esteban Ribovics enters this Brazil vs Argentina showdown as an enormous UFC betting favorite. The Argentine is younger, faster, more durable and perfectly comfortable turning fights into chaotic exchanges. Barboza, meanwhile, has lost three straight and was stopped by Jalin Turner in the opening round of his last appearance.

It feels like a brutal piece of matchmaking for the veteran. The UFC muct be desparate for a knockout! Still, there is one reason nobody should completely dismiss Barboza: he remains incredibly dangerous when the fight starts. Give him space for one spinning kick, knee or perfectly timed counter and he can still produce another addition to his legendary highlight reel.

Can Barboza turn back the clock one more time, or will Ribovics show exactly why the betting market has made him such a massive favorite?

Edson Barboza vs Esteban Ribovics odds

UFC odds have made their opinion extremely clear. Ribovics is a massive favorite!

FighterMoneylineImplied probability
Esteban Ribovics-650 to -700~87%
Edson Barboza+475 to +500~17%

Ribovics reportedly opened much closer to the -350 to -400 range before bettors hammered the Argentine. The line quickly widened, pushing Barboza into deep underdog territory. It is not difficult to understand the movement.

There is a ten-year age gap between the two fighters. Barboza is riding a three-fight losing streak, while Ribovics is 30 years old and should be entering his physical prime.

The problem is that -650 or -700 leaves almost no value on the Ribovics moneyline. If we agree with the market, the more interesting question becomes how he wins.

Can Barboza get one last highlight-reel knockout?

Barboza is 40 years old, owns a 24-14 professional record and has been competing in the UFC since 2010. There is very little left for him to prove. If anything, I would like to see him retire!

Few fighters in UFC history have produced a better collection of striking highlights. Terry Etim’s spinning-wheel-kick knockout remains one of the promotion’s most iconic finishes, while Barboza has continued adding brutal kicks, knees and body shots to his highlight reel throughout his career.

That power is what gives him a chance here. Ribovics is aggressive and extremely hittable. He is willing to exchange in the pocket and has been hurt before. Against most opponents, his durability allows him to survive those moments and immediately fire back.

Playing that game against Barboza is dangerous, even in 2026. Barboza’s best opportunity probably comes during the opening few minutes. He needs to attack Ribovics before the younger fighter settles into his rhythm. The Brazilian’s kicks remain his biggest weapon, but Ribovics’ aggressive entries could also create opportunities for knees and spinning attacks.

The problem is what happens if none of them land clean. In his later career, we have seen a clear blueprint to beating him: crowd the kicker, make it ugly, and push the dangerous striker against the fence.

The Turner loss is particularly concerning. Barboza was stopped just 2:24 into the opening round. He has indicated that he still feels capable of competing and viewed the defeat as simply getting caught in a sport where that can happen to anybody.

Maybe he is right. But from a betting perspective, we cannot ignore the possibility that shots Barboza once survived are now having a much bigger effect.

Esteban Ribovics: The wrong young fighter for Barboza

Ribovics enters with a 15-3 record and has quickly developed a reputation as one of the most entertaining strikers at 155 pounds. He is not defensively perfect, far from it.

But that almost makes this matchup worse for Barboza. Ribovics is happy to get hit if it allows him to land two or three shots in return. He pressures, throws combinations and has the durability to survive exchanges that would force more cautious fighters to back away.

His 2024 fight against Daniel Zellhuber demonstrated exactly how comfortable he is when things get chaotic. Ribovics does not need a technically perfect fight. He can turn it into a brawl and trust his chin, output and conditioning.

He followed that victory with a split-decision defeat against Nasrat Haqparast before beating Elves Brener by unanimous decision. Mateusz Gamrot finally stopped his momentum in April, submitting Ribovics with an arm-triangle in the second round.

There is very little shame in that defeat. Gamrot presented a completely different problem with his elite wrestling and grappling. Barboza is unlikely to attack Ribovics through that same weakness. This should primarily be a striking battle, which puts the Argentine back in much more comfortable territory.

Ribovics now gets an opportunity to rebound against one of the biggest names of his career. Beating Barboza may not carry the same competitive weight it would have five years ago, but putting away a UFC legend still gets attention.

Can Barboza survive Ribovics’ pressure?

This is the biggest question surrounding the fight. Barboza has historically been much more comfortable when opponents allow him to operate at kicking range. Give him room and he can destroy legs, attack the body and suddenly launch something spectacular upstairs.

Rather than standing at range and playing Barboza’s kicking game, expect the Argentine to push forward and force exchanges with his hands. Every minute spent boxing in close range should favor the younger man.

Barboza may have the more diverse striking arsenal, but Ribovics has the attributes that matter more to me in this particular matchup: youth, pace, durability and volume. And once Barboza begins slowing down, the matchup could become ugly.

Does Barboza have two minutes to change the fight?

That might sound dramatic, but Barboza’s opening-round threat is the main reason I would not blindly throw Ribovics into massive parlays. Ribovics can be hit, and Barboza can still hit extremely hard. That combination gives the underdog a legitimate puncher’s, or perhaps more accurately kicker’s, chance.

A +750 price on Barboza by KO/TKO tells you exactly what you are betting on. You are not betting on the 40-year-old to consistently outwork Ribovics for 15 minutes. You are betting on one vintage moment.

A spinning wheel kick, a knee up the middle, a body kick that completely changes the fight, make even a leg kick TKO, it is possible. But longer the fight continues, however, the less I like Barboza’s chances.

Ribovics sometimes takes a little while to build momentum, which could allow Barboza to have some success early. But once the Argentine finds his range and begins forcing sustained exchanges, I expect the age and durability difference to become obvious.

Edson Barboza vs Esteban Ribovics prediction

There was a time when I would have loved Barboza in this type of matchup. Ribovics is hittable enough that a prime Barboza could have punished his aggression with kicks and counters all night. Even this version of Barboza could give him an uncomfortable opening few minutes.

I just cannot trust the veteran to survive what comes back. At 40 years old and after nearly 40 professional fights, Barboza has accumulated an enormous amount of mileage. The first-round knockout loss to Turner is difficult to ignore, especially when the UFC has immediately followed it by giving him another younger and extremely dangerous striker.

Ribovics does not need to fight recklessly. He can take a few minutes to find his reads, pressure Barboza toward the fence and gradually increase his output. I expect Barboza to have one or two dangerous moments early. He might even hurt Ribovics. But eventually the younger fighter takes over.

Once Ribovics starts landing combinations and forcing Barboza into prolonged exchanges, I think the difference in durability becomes decisive. Barboza’s best chance is a spectacular early finish. If he does not find it, this could deteriorate quickly.

I’m taking Ribovics to overwhelm Barboza and finish him late in the opening round.

How to bet Edson Barboza vs Esteban Ribovics

UFC predictions are one thing. But what is the best bet? There is no reason for or anyone to lay -650 or -700 on the Ribovics moneyline. At that price, we need to find another way to play the favorite. Ribovics by KO/TKO at around +115 to +185 is much more interesting.

The Argentine has the pressure, volume and durability to turn this into exactly the type of fight I do not want Barboza having at 40 years old. Barboza remains dangerous enough early that Ribovics needs to be careful, but if the veteran cannot find a quick finish, I expect the younger man to eventually overwhelm him.

The under 2.5 rounds is another option, although a price around -210 is already expensive. Fight doesn’t go the distance at roughly -275 offers even less value.

If you want the bigger number, Ribovics by first-round KO/TKO around +185 fits the prediction. I prefer taking his KO/TKO method more generally, though, because Barboza could start strongly enough to push the finish into Round 2.

Barboza by KO/TKO at around +750 is the lottery-ticket alternative. There is at least a logical path to it. Ribovics gets hit, and Barboza remains capable of producing something ridiculous from nowhere.

But that is not where my money is going. The younger, fresher and more durable striker should eventually make this a very difficult night for the UFC legend.
